Services / Serpentine Belt Service

How it's done:

  • Run car to listen for abnormal sounds.
  • Release belt tensioner, allowing the belt to slide off the pulleys.
  • Check all rotating components, the alternator, air conditioner compressor, etc
  • Replace with a new belt.
  • Release the tensioner.
  • A serpentine belt is a long, flat, multi-ribbed belt that is driven by the engine’s crankshaft pulley. The belt drives many engine accessories such as the alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump, water pump, and air pump. A hydraulic or spring-loaded automatic tensioner controls the tension of the serpentine belt. Driving wear and tear deteriorates the belt causing it to need replacing.

    TRIBE recommendation:

    • Follow manufacturer-provided service maintenance schedule.
